This sucks …

It’s been over two weeks.  Molly’s stitches are out and she has a pretty good handle on what her limitations are but we are still not used to this.  She’s adapting just fine.  But we still look at her with her obviously missing leg and think that this sucks … big time … it’s just not fair.  My poor baby girl.  Yes, I know … better this than not have her here at all, but it still sucks.

Ah, we understand completely, all humans go through this. Give yourself time to adapt to the New Normal, and once you start to see how Molly inspires everyone everywhere she goes, all doubts and sucky feelings will vanish. Really!

Be More Dog, and you’ll see how the canine outlook can make other parts of your life better too. Just wait.

We’re glad to her she’s doing well! Hang in there OK?

Careful, if you keep that up, Molly will pick up on your emotions and follow your lead… prolonging complete recovery. Many members have found the book Without Regret to be helpful in coping with the emotions you describe. We sure did!

Dr. Kramer from CARE gave the best advice. If you want life to return to “normal” you must act as though life is normal… in other words, if you feel this sucks. It will suck.

Thanks guys … she doesn’t see our moments of grief for her and she sees nothing different other than the fact she’s allowed to mooch a little more, and gets carried down the basement stairs. It’s the moments of watching her hop across the lawn, or cleaning the couch where her paw would have been … the cringing as she face-plants in the lawn when she takes off like a bat outta hell to chase the squirrel that seems to know she’s not as fast as she used to be. Those are the “it sucks bigtime” moments.

But it’s the moments of her flopping down beside me on the couch, tail wagging, rolling on her back to get a belly rub … the flying out to the kitchen when I bring out the cheese grater … the bringing me her toy to play tug of war … that’s her normal. And it’s amazing how life goes on.
